During Tim’s 12 year career in tax, he has worked in industries such as manufacturing, real estate, technology, and to a lesser extent mining. "Shape Memory Alloy: The Past, Present and Future"

Dr. Khan received his MASc and PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, during which time he held an NSERC Alexander Graham Bell Scholarship. His BASc degree is in Material Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto and his doctoral thesis was on the discovery of the Multiple Memory Material Technology for which he is co-inventor. He is currently President and CTO of Smarter Alloys and a Research Associate at the Centre for Advanced Materials Joining (CAMJ) in the University of Waterloo. He has conducted research collaborations with nearly a dozen industries in sectors ranging from aerospace to medical devices.

Ray Cracauer

Chief Technology Advisor, Kangaroo Group

Through a strategic collaboration alliance with MTB&G, Ray acts as Chief Technology Advisor at Kangaroo, responsible for all R&D activities and technology implementations.   Ray Cracauer is the founder and general manager of MTB&G and has 30 years of engineering, development and management experience in the medical device, IVD and biotechnology industries. For seven years, he served as Director of Engineering at Axela, a start-up company in the Toronto area. He served as Manager of Engineering for Third Wave Technologies where he developed three of the most advanced oligonucleotide production facilities in the world. Mr. Cracauer holds over 20 issued US patents and has numerous patents pending. He attended the University of Minnesota, studying mechanical engineering.


 

Lisa Cousins VP, Research & Development, IONICS Mass Spectometry

Lisa Cousins is Vice President of Research and Development at IONICS Mass Spectrometry in Bolton, Ontario.  She is one of four co-founders of the company, founded in 2001, and holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry.  With over twenty patents, she has extensive knowledge in quadrupole mass spectrometry and commercialization of scientific instrumentation.

 

 

 

 

Jorge Silva Co-Founder, Komodo Open Lab

Jorge is a recovering academic who spends his time coding and laying out circuit board traces in order to avoid relapsing. He is an Inclusive Tech. Developer at the Inclusive Design Research Centre, OCAD University and Technical Lead at OCAD U’s spin-off Komodo OpenLab. Jorge has been working with people with disabilities for over a decade assisting in the development of technologies that support their daily lives. He is most proud of his work with Tecla, a set of tools that provides access to mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, for those who are unable to manipulate them due to disease or disability. Jorge believes open source is one of the best ways to empower marginalized communities to “scratch their own itch”.

His roles within Phillips Plastics have included the following: project engineering; new business and technology development; tooling engineering and design.  For the last 5 years, he has lead the launch of one of Phillips newest business units, Multi-Shot LSR molding.  The new production facility has a specifc focus on multi-material molding with silicone and thermoplastics, building on the 30 plus years of multi-material molding experience at Phillips.

Mark Barfoot Managing Director, Hyphen

As managing director of Hyphen, a division of Christie Digital Systems Canada Inc. which offers rapid prototyping and environmental testing services, Mark is responsible for overseeing Hyphen’s day-to-day operations. Before taking on this role, Mark oversaw and expanded Christie’s in-house product development capabilities. With a passion for continuous product design improvement, Mark spearheaded the expansion of a multimillion-dollar environmental testing lab and prototyping center, which has helped shorten lead time and project-design cycles for Christie.
